The celebration, at our Sunday campus at UWC Dover, marked a special day for Aidha. We celebrated our 9th birthday with a delicious buffet lunch of curry puffs, salad, snacks, cookies and cake.

Like most 9 year-olds, Aidha is growing rapidly, fed by a nutritious diet of love and support, all provided by our enthusiastic students, dedicated mentors, volunteers, supportive corporate donors and professional advisors.

Only 9 years ago, Aidha was a fledgling organization, holding classes in a condo’s activity room with a single class of only 25 students

A few years later, as class sizes expanded, the campus moved to an old black and white cottage on Nassim Road, with a few laptops and a fewer than 100 students.

But Aidha quickly outgrew the Nassim road campus, and in 2012, moved to the NTUC Trade Centre on Bras Basah Road.

Then in 2014, Aidha moved to its new home at United World College’s Dover campus, and welcomed a record breaking 712 new students.

In 2015, Aidha is aiming to have 1000 new students,  and we can proudly report that more than 2,700 domestic workers have studied at Aidha since its inception in 2006!

As Aidha CEO Karen Fernandez reminded us today, Aidha would not be possible without the individual and collective efforts of all the students, mentors, trainees and supporters, past and present. To Aidha’s students, she said “We are so proud of all the accomplishments of our students. Aidha is only successful when you, our students, are successful.”

Happy 9th birthday, Aidha!
