Online Learning Challenge!

Taking learning online is now the new normal but it is a challenging task to adopt new learning techniques very quickly!

At Aidha, benefiting from the expertise in our community, and huge willingness to help, we were able to draw on the skills and experience of our staff and volunteers to create a new delivery model for our financial education programmes. Now we’re all becoming Zoom experts!

For one of our recent graduates, Siti Mujiati, life became extremely busy under Circuit Breaker and Phase Two but she was determined to keep learning. Online classes allowed her to continue learning at her own pace, though it was different from the usual classes. She soon got the hang of using online video conferencing platforms such as Zoom and Facebook Live not only to continue her learning but to connect with her friends and family.

We didn’t’ stop at adapting our face-to-face classes to virtual learning, but also looked to other tools to keep the learning going. For our ‘Improve Your English’ students, we started an English Club, with a WhatsApp group sharing weekly fun learning challenges. Creatively curated by our English mentors, these exercises have included interactive elements such as YouTube videos, songs, quizzes and fun visuals. All the exercises build on core learning from our curriculum.

We also instigated monthly Zoom sessions where English mentors and students get together virtually for new activities and to review the weekly activities. “It’s good as I can try the exercises during my free time. I enjoy it,” commented English student, Irene.

With English classes resuming back online in the coming months, we look forward to seeing more of our students completing their studies!

All smiles during our Module 2 online class!

For this year’s Graduation Ceremony, over half of our graduates completed their remaining classes online. It was an incredible accomplishment for our students and for our mentors for getting to grips with the new learning format. At Aidha, we rely on your support to continue empowering foreign domestic workers with financial education, regardless of the learning format.
